Street Photography in the Rain
Wet streets, reflections, and umbrellas. Rain transforms the streets.
Why Shoot in the Rain?
Rain transforms the streets. Wet pavement reflects light, umbrellas create shapes, and people move differently. For Are-Bure-Boke photographers, rain is a gift.
Protecting Your Gear
- Rain sleeve: Cheap plastic cover for your camera
- Umbrella: Hold it over your camera while shooting
- Ziplock bag: Emergency protection
- Weather-sealed camera: If you have one, use it
What to Shoot
- Reflections: Wet streets create mirrors
- Umbrellas: Shapes, colors, patterns
- Puddles: Jumping, splashing, avoiding
- Shelter: People huddled under awnings
- Movement: People rushing, running, hurrying
Camera Settings
Rain means low light. Push your ISO high (1600-3200 film, 3200-6400 digital). Use a wide aperture (f/2 or wider). Embrace the grain.
